ALLERTON PARK PLAYING CARDS

ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR

Completed through an illustrative lens, these playing cards encompass my experience at and love for Allerton Park, owned and operated by the University of Illinois. Each suit becomes a respective leaf or tree able to be found in one’s exploration of the beautiful landscape, which is also reflected on the backside of each card. With a large, historic mansion being the draw for many visitors, the design is inspired by a sculpture found at the structure’s back entrance, surrounded by a geometric recreation of a sky view of the park’s many gardens.

Royalty is represented by four statues found on the premises, including the Sun Singer, Sea Maiden, and Charioteer, which are all adorned with weapons and other aspects found on traditional playing cards throughout history. Writing found on these cards references both my own personal experiences at those places throughout the years, as well as a look into the park from the statues’ own eyes.
